Mungret AFC was founded in 1971 when a team was entered to play in the Desmond League and home pitch was the Sports and Social Club grounds of Irish Cement. In 1972 the County Council gave the Club the use of the pitch that it is still using today, and at that time the Club also had the use of the area that is currently used by the neighbouring GAA Club. In 1982, the Club purchased the plot on which the Clubhouse is sited today, the Old Clubhouse being opened in 1984.
The 10 years from 1988 to 1998 were a purple patch for the Club on the field at Junior and Youths:

Numerous schoolboy trophies were also picked up over the years.
1997: the Club decided to convert the ground at the rear of the Clubhouse into an all-weather training area. Ground levels were raised, a fine-dust surface was laid and high netting and floodlights were installed.
In 2011 The New Clubhouse was officially opened by the founding member of the Club Mr Pat Cotter in the presence of many distinguished guest.
1990: Mungret Regional soccer nursery was started and now the Club has teams from under 7 to under 10 non-competitive and competitive teams from under-10 to under-16 schoolboys/Girls, plus U-17,junior,minors, Two mens and One junior ladies team.
2011: Mungret Regional Junior Ladies Team won the Munster Junior Cup. Our Mens Junior B'team had success in winning their league cup. The Junior 'C' team were runners up in their League Cup.
At schoolboy level a total of four leagues and four cups were won making Club history as our best year at under age soccer . League and Cup success has come at

2012 Saw our Schoolboys/Girls again break club records when Mungret Regional FC become the most successful Club at Schoolboy/Girl level in the history of the Limerick District Schoolboy/girl League with the Club winning a total of 11 trophies,

U13A Premier League and Cup.
U14B League and cup,
U14 A Premier Cup winners
U-16 A Premier cup winners.
2013 Saw Mungret Regional Win three Cups and One League title. The Club was unlucky not to win more silver ware as a number of our teams finished runner up in several leagues and cup finals. Success came at

Today the club boast 23 Schollboy/Girl teams, One U17 team One Minor team Two Junior Team and One Ladies Junior team giving us a total of 28 teams and membership of up to 500 Schoolboy/girl members.
Over the years our players have excelled in their achievement with two Irish international last year on the Ireland U15 Team and selection of five players for the league Kennedy Cup team
Later this year another our players has been selected for Irish trials on the U15 panel.
