U11's GREEN VERSUS GERALDINES
By Marie Carroll
GOALS GALORE FOR BOTH TEAMS
Lining out for U11'sGreen
On a day when the wind played havoc, both sets of players had to contend with it. Geraldine FC were doing their upmost to break down our solid defence, Amhlaoibh, Darren and Eoghan H. were keeping them at bay. Oscar V in goals making a few saves. No team were dominating the opening ten minutes, Aidan U. came close to open the scoring when his shot hit the goalpost. Geraldine FC got the opening score from a long range effort low just outside of Oscar outreached body.
Eoghan C who was dominating the mid field, played a long ball back to Darren who could see Eoghan making a run into space up front played it long to Eoghan C. who's first touch moved beyond the defence into space, it was one on one with the keeper. He slotted low to the left of keeper. Geraldine continued to keep the pressure, and broke out defences once more before the end of the first half (1-2).
The second half players were moved to try out various positions on the field, so as to get them comfortable defending and attacking. We are encouraging players to be able to play in a least two positions.
Geraldine pounced on us with three goals in quick succession, whilst our players were getting familiar with their new positioning. We gained our composure with Darren and Amhlaoibh in midfield cutting out their midfield from running through on the ball. Our green machine has a bit of work to on holding position and defending from counter attack. Charlie R was on the receiving end of Amhlaoibh long ball using full advantage of the wind, first touch directing goal bound. Jack L in midfield was showing is ability to pass and go with Aidan and unlucky not to have scored, fine save by Geraldine FC keeper. Oscar V wanted a piece of the outfield action, Eoghan C obliged by going in goals. Last then minutes of the game, Mungret were pressurising Geraldines, a free kick from outside the square, taken by Darren M saw Eoghan H brilliant header deflected by the keeper for a corner. Geraldines were frantic in defense trying to prevent Mungret relentless pressure by Jack L. Amhlaoibh. A hand ball in the penalty area by Geraldine player resulted in a penalty superbly taken by Amhlaoibh, buried top bins.
Great team work by all,
Have a great Easter everyone, use the time to practice your skills and have fun.
